The Eagles posted a 206, 21 strokes better than their first outing less than a week earlier. Sophomore Ainslie Winton carded a 49 to lead the Eagles and got scoring support from seniors Taylor Poling and Aubrey Hollander, each with a 52, and sophomore Annika Evenson who turned in a 53. Edinburgh’s Morgan Calhoun was the medalist with a 44.

Aug. 13

Brown County 202, Edgewood 213, Brownstown Central 215

Brown Co.: Taylor Poling 47, Aubrey Hollander 48, Allison Stogsdill 53, Annika Evenson 54, Ainslie Winton 56.

Coach’s comments: Seniors Taylor Poling and Aubrey Hollander broke the “50” barrier for the first time in their careers with a 47 and 48, respectively, and fellow senior Allison Stogsdill added a 53 to propel the Eagles to victory over Edgewood and Bownstown Tuesday, Aug. 13 at Cascades Golf Course in Bloomington. Brown County picked up another quality score from sophomore Annika Evenson who fired a 54. Sophomore Ainslie Winton turned in a 56. “Allison had a round or two in the 40s last season, and Taylor and Aubrey have been close before. They were both ecstatic, and deservedly so,” said coach Brad Baughman following the match. The Eagles’ next match will be Monday, Aug. 19 when they host the Southwestern Shelby Spartans.

Aug. 19

Brown County 206, Southwestern 233

Brown Co.: Taylor Poling 49, Aubrey Hollander 51, Allison Stogsdill 53, Ainslie Winton 53, Courtney Hill 53, Christy Sebastian 62, Abby Padgett 64, Annika Evenson 65.

Coach’s comments: Battling the heat and humidity, the BCHS girls golf team fired a 206 Monday afternoon at Salt Creek Golf Retreat to get past the Southwestern Shelby Spartans, who carded a 233. For the second consecutive match, it was the one-two punch of seniors Taylor Poling and Aubrey Hollander that led the Eagles. Poling shot a 49, while Hollander was just a couple strokes back with a 51. Allison Stogsdill, Ainslie Winton and junior Courtney Hill, playing in her first match, each turned in a 53 to account for the winning score. With the victory, the Eagles improve to 4 wins and 2 losses. The golfers will face Indian Creek Thursday, Aug. 22 at Tameka Woods and will compete in the Jasper Invitational Saturday, Aug. 24 at Buffalo Trace Golf Course. Action there begins at 12:30 p.m.

Aug. 24

Wildcat Invitational

Jasper 387, Brown County 439, Southridge 442, Springs Valley 443, Crawford County 462, Forest Park 466, North Harrison 462

Brown Co.: Taylor Poling 99, Allison Stogsdill 101, Ainslie Winton 114, Abby Padgett 125, Annika Evenson 129.

Coach’s comments: Playing in their first 18-hole event of the season, the Brown County High School golfers made the two-hour journey to a challenging Buffalo Trace Golf Course in Jasper for the Wildcat Invitational and came home with a second-place finish in the seven-team tournament. The Eagles posted a 439, several strokes behind the tournament champion, Jasper High School, but played without their No. 2 golfer, Aubrey Hollander, who had an academic commitment. Seniors Taylor Poling and Allison Stogsdill shot a 99 and 101, respectively, to lead the Eagle attack. Poling’s round was good enough to earn her sixth place overall. The team travels to Deer Creek Golf Course Wednesday, Aug. 28 to compete in a three-way match with Monrovia and South Putnam before setting its sights on the WIC championships Saturday, Aug. 31 at Forest Park Golf Course in Brazil.

Coach’s comments: The Eagles took a step forward in their pursuit of the Western Indiana Conference (WIC) championship with a 3-2 victory over rival Indian Creek. Our singles players played really well, especially Aaron and Josh. It was also good to see Nolan win in the third set for our team victory. Our doubles struggled a little bit tonight as new teams were tried. I have all the confidence in these guys and I know they will rebound for a victory tomorrow vs Hauser.

Coach’s comments: The Eagles took another step forward tonight with a very solid, 5-to-0 win over the Jets from Hauser. Our No. 2s (singles Josh Miller and doubles Noah Cochran/Spencer Blee) led the way with two victories quickly over their opponents. Our third point came from No. 3 singles player, Reid Davis. Aaron won a hard-fought victory over another fellow senior whom he defeated in sectionals last year. Aiden and Nolan played some really good tennis against a good No. 1 team. I was also really impressed with our JV players, as Austen and Daylen both won in convincing style. The Eagles will take on the Knights of Northview at 10 a.m. on Saturday at home in another WIC match to open their home part of the season.

No. 2 singles: JD Buell (N) d. Daylen Dees (BC) 6-1

No 3 singles: Noah Biddle (N) d. Daylen Dees (BC) 4-1

Coach’s comments: The Eagles faced a very experienced Northview Knights team today. I thought we put our best team forward today to put us in a position to win. Josh playing No. 1 singles for the first time battled for every point and he came just a little short. The change in the lineup put newcomer Austen Deckard and Reid Davis in unfamiliar positions, but each one competed. Our doubles team of Aiden and Nolan played some really great tennis and were just a few points from winning in straight sets. Noah and Spencer just came few shots from getting a victory. With one of our players sick, freshman Daylen Dees played a lot of tennis. He continues to improve each match. The Eagles took a small step back today, but with two matches and our BC Invite next week, we will have time to work on some of the little things that will make us better. The best is yet to come for this team. The next match will be Wednesday at home vs. Trinity Lutheran at 5 p.m.
