Letter: Thanks to churches that helped with prayer event

To the editor:

On behalf of the board of New Day REC, I would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of the recent men’s and women’s REC weekends at the Brown County jail.

Several dozen REC volunteers spent three days with jail residents who volunteered to participate in a spiritual journey to experience the love of Christ. We bring a message of hope and the chance for a brighter future to those who feel lost and marginalized in our society. Sheriff Scott Southerland, Jail Commander Tony Sciscoe and the entire jail staff were gracious and accommodating throughout the process. This event does not happen without their encouragement and support.

Local churches brought in fabulous meals to feed about 110 people, including St. Agnes Catholic Church, Nashville Christian Church, Parkview Church of the Nazarene, The Salvation Army Church, Nashville United Methodist Church and New Life Community Church.

Numerous individuals participated in the 52-hour prayer vigil held each weekend as well as the candlelight worship service on Saturday evening.

Letters of encouragement sent by local pastors were read to the residents throughout the weekend.

The residents were astounded and deeply moved by all the people who love and care for them, love that some of them may never have experienced in their entire lives.
