Irma was born April 16, 1927, in Rehren, Germany, to Willy and Sophie Grupe. She, her husband Horst Langner and her two children immigrated to the United States in 1960. They settled in Indianapolis.

Until retirement, Irma worked in food service for Bartholomew Consolidated Schools. Her years in Columbus were the best years of her long life. She was surrounded by friends and family and was very committed to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed singing in her church choir and with the Silvertones. Irma was ever grateful for her good life. She especially loved to travel. Irma returned to Germany for visits, travelled with friends and tour groups to faraway places, and travelled with her family. Her love for animals was a joy. She lived independently in her beloved home until this spring. All that knew her loved her.
