GNAW BONE — A Columbus woman was injured over the weekend when she passed a stopped vehicle on the left and crashed into oncoming traffic.

The crash happened near the Hills O’Brown vacation rental office in Gnaw Bone on a busy October Sunday.

Sandra Bay, 79, of Columbus, was driving west on State Road 46 East about 1:30 p.m. Oct. 20 when she noticed a stopped vehicle in front of her that was waiting to turn left. She told police that even if she would have braked hard, she would’ve hit that car, so she drove around the left side of the car into oncoming traffic.

She told police she did not see a car coming her direction in the opposite lane. Her Jeep Liberty collided with an eastbound Silverado pickup driven by Justin Hayse, 36, of Brownsburg. Hayse told police that he swerved over as far as he could, but the front left corner of his truck collided with the driver’s side of the Jeep.

Hayse was not injured. Bay was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor bleeding to her lower arm/elbow area, the police report said.

Both vehicles were towed.
