Letter: BETA moving to new location next semester

To the editor:

BETA is on the move. For the past year, BETA has been renting a space on Jefferson Street. While the space has served us well, it has become too much for us to afford.

Starting in January, we will have BETA at the YMCA. It is an amazing move that we are looking forward to. There will be a lot of opportunities for your kids to be active, hang out and play. They will have access to the weight room, basketball court, exercise room and the room we will be housed in.

During the months of November and December, the BETA board members, along with the newly founded BETA Teen Advisory Board (BTAB), will be working on a couple things for the kids to do, since BETA will not be fully functional. The music lessons, however, will continue on as usual at Common Grounds in the alley across from Big Woods Pizza.

Additionally, for the rest of the year, we will not be doing the BETA Mobile High School on Thursdays. That will also resume back up in January.

We ask that you please be patient with us as we go through these changes and fix the things that need fixed.

The ultimate goal of BETA is to find a permanent place of our own. Being at the YMCA is going to help us to accomplish this goal and so much more.

Thank you to all the teens and volunteers who helped us to pack and move. Thank you to Common Grounds for allowing us to continue with our music lessons. Thank you to the YMCA for accepting BETA into your home. Thank you to all the parents and teens for being so patient with us. It truly means the world to us.

If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to email [email protected], message BETA Teen on our Facebook page or you can call/text me at 812-929-7386. I will be happy to answer all your questions.

Mandy Wade, BETA president
