BETA moving out of downtown space

Starting in January, BETA will be moving to the YMCA.

The teen club has been renting a space on Jefferson Street for the past year, but the cost has become too much for the group to afford, said board President Mandy Wade.

Moving to the YMCA will allow more opportunities for local teens to be active, as they’ll have access to the weight room, basketball court, exercise room and a meeting room. “It is an amazing move that we are looking forward to,” Wade said.

Before the official move, in November and December, BETA board members, along with the newly founded BETA Teen Advisory Board (BTAB), will be working on things for the kids to do on Tuesdays after school. Details will be announced soon.

However, the music lessons that BETA had been offering will continue as usual at Common Grounds in the alley across from Big Woods Pizza.

Until the January move, BETA will not be doing BETA Mobile at the high school on Thursdays.

BETA is open to junior high and high school-aged students, including those who are home-schooled. The free club meets from 3 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

“We ask that you please be patient with us as we go through these changes and fix the things that need fixed,” Wade said. “The ultimate goal of BETA is to find a permanent place of our own. Being at the YMCA is going to help us to accomplish this goal and so much more.”
