Indiana Governor’s Arts Awards opportunities

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) recently announced two opportunities related to the 2020 Governor’s Arts Awards:

Call for award nominations: The awards were established to recognize individuals, communities and organizations who have made significant contributions to the arts or cultural life of Indiana. These biennial awards are Indiana’s highest honor in the arts. Each  winner receives an original piece of artwork created specifically for the event by an Indiana artist and the opportunity to share their story with other arts supporters statewide at a public celebration in October of 2020.

The Governor’s Arts Awards also recognizes and encourages the work of emerging artists in Indiana; thus, nominations in this special category are also encouraged.

Nominations can be made at surveygizmo.com/s3/5280902/Governor-s-Arts-Awards-Nomination-Form. Nominations are due by Sunday, Dec. 1.

Call for award design: The Indiana Arts Commission is issuing a call to Indiana-based individuals or teams interested in designing and fabricating the 2020 Governor’s Arts Awards.

Seven awards will be created. Five will be presented to winners; one will remain with the Indiana Arts Commission, and one will remain with the Office of the Governor.

The budget for the seven awards is $7,000 inclusive of all expenses including design, fabrication, travel, taxes and artist fees. Awards should be created with durable material and be of an appropriate size and weight to be awarded on stage as part of a public event. It is the commission’s preference that the awards include an interactive or technology-assisted element (like illumination, kinetic), but it is not required.

Submit designs at surveygizmo.com/s3/5282545/Governor-s-Arts-Awards-Submission-Form. Submissions are due by Monday, Dec. 1.

State arts commission offering artist services programs

The Indiana Arts Commission is accepting applications for the On-Ramp Creative Entrepreneur Accelerator and the Individual Advancement artist programs.

The On-Ramp program gives artists ways to enhance business skills, like professional coaching in developing business plans or career goals and connecting them with state supporters, partners or collaborators.

The application deadline for this program is Jan. 16 at 4:30 p.m. Applications can be submitted online using the IAC’s application portal on its website.

The Individual Advancement program is designed to “support projects that have a positive impact on any phase of an artist’s career” while also directly benefiting the Indiana public or engages a local community, according to the release. Artists who specialize in visual arts, like crafts or photography, and artists who have disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Artists can request up to $2,000 to support their projects. The deadline for this grant is Feb. 6 at 4:30 p.m. and the application can also be submitted through the IAC’s application portal.
