Challenge extended for humane society donations

Donations have been rolling in for the new medical room at the Brown County Humane Society’s new shelter, but enough money was not received by the Oct. 31 deadline.

Of the $200,000 needed, the community raised less than $40,000 — an amount which was matched by the Howard Hughes Pass-through Fund.

However, a new challenge has been created. Hughes trustee Marcia Likens’ desire is for the room to be named after veterinarian Dr. James Brester, feeling strongly that this is something Hughes would have also wanted.

She has extended the deadline to the end of the year — with a $2 match for every $1 donation.

In order to have enough money for the naming rights, more than $40,000 still needs to be raised. Double-matched by the Hughes fund, this will add $120,000 to the current total, reaching the ultimate $200,000 goal.
