Firefighters save home from chimney fire

A home was saved on Parkview Road this weekend after firefighters worked to quickly put out a chimney fire.

The fire was reported just before 10 p.m. Nov. 16 in the 800 block of Parkview Road. Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department Chief Nick Kelp said it was caused by a creosote buildup and a type of nest that was next to the flue pipe.

The house was not a total loss, but will need some repairs, Kelp said.

Kelp said the homeowner also put water on the fire, which helped to save the home. The homeowners were able to stay there that evening.

Hamblen Township and Southern Brown volunteer fire departments were called to assist, but Kelp said their response was cancelled before they arrived because firefighters on scene had the fire under control quickly.

“Nothing went wrong, for once,” Kelp said.

“A lot of things went in our favor.”

No injuries were reported.
