Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20 at the Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

The speaker will be Rotarian Herb Brown, who will discuss his recent pilgrimage to northern Spain to travel the Camino de Santiago, or The Way of St. James. This is a 114-kilometer hike, completed in segments over several days, beginning in Sarria and ending in Santiago de Compostela where the remains of St. James were discovered in the ninth century.

Brown has been a Rotarian and maritime attorney for 46 years, having served Rotary as club president, district secretary (Puerto Rico) and district governor (Puerto Rico). Professionally, he has worked as an assistant United States attorney for the District of Puerto Rico and in private practice as a trial attorney specializing in admiralty and maritime law. As an aside, Brown County is named after Herb’s ancestor, Gen. Jacob Brown, who defeated the British at the Battle of Sackett’s Harbor in the War of 1812.
