1. A Brown County High School Athletic Hall of Fame induction is happening this weekend. Sean Mulryan, Class of 1991, is being honored for his accomplishments in track and field from 1987 to 1991. He also lettered in track and played basketball. He will be the 35th person to be added to the hall of fame since it was established in 2007. Read more here.

2. Ash Wednesday is next week, Feb. 26. If you celebrate the Lenten season, find a list of Ash Wednesday services in Community Calendar.

3. If your home has a septic system, you might want to do some reading and attend a meeting next week. A revised Brown County septic ordinance is going before the Brown County Commissioners this Wednesday night, Feb. 19. The new draft ordinance (1/21/2020 version) is posted at browncountyhealthdept.org/page-7/page-11. The meeting about it starts at 6 p.m. at the County Office Building, Salmon Room.

4. If you run a home-based business, you might also want to attend the Brown County Area Plan Commission meeting next week. That commission has been revising the “home occupation” ordinance for several months to clarify which types of businesses need permits and which need “special exceptions” in order to operate in residential areas. The working draft is posted here. The area plan commission will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the County Office Building, Salmon Room.

5. The Brown County Election Board needs to hire two “election systems technicians” to work during the primary (May) and general (November) election seasons ASAP. These people transport and troubleshoot voting equipment. It’s a paying job. For more information, read this brief.
