Police: Man flown to hospital with gunshot wound

HAMBLEN TWP. — A 42-year-old man was flown to Methodist hospital from Petro Road this afternoon to be treated for a gunshot wound.

Who the man is, and how he received the wound, have not been explained yet.

A press release released shortly after 8 p.m. today from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office reads:

“On Friday, February 21, 2020, at approximately 2:12 p.m., the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Department, and Columbus Regional Health Ambulance Service were dispatched to the 5900 block of Petro Road in reference to a person suffering from a gunshot wound to the right side of the abdomen.

“The victim, a 42-year-old male, was found lying on the ground in front of the residence. The first arriving deputies administered first aid until fire and EMS personnel arrived on scene. The male was then transported to IU Health – Methodist via LifeLine helicopter for treatment.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further details will be released at this time. The situation appears to be an isolated incident with no threat to the public.”

The Indiana State Police, Indiana Conservation Officers, Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Department, IU Health LifeLine and Columbus Regional Health EMS all assisted at the scene.
