Letter: Support Brown County Lions Club projects

To the editor:

Lions in Brown County?

Yes, it is true. There are Lions in Brown County and they do what they do best: SERVE.

The Brown County Lions Club was chartered in 1943, and for 77 years, the members have provided various services and programs to you, the residents of Nashville and Brown County.

Many of you are aware that our 2019-20 Double Value Coupon Card (DVCC) went on sale at local banks and the Visitors Center last November and extends to the end of 2020. We hope you are an eager participant in this program which is the centerpiece of our club fundraising activities.

When you, the public, purchase a DVCC from one of our outlets or a Lion member, you are making a decision to contribute to the club’s charitable programs that encompassed grants last year to five graduating high school seniors ($4,665); seven Brown County organizations ($3,825) including the YMCA and St. Vincent dePaul; and eight state and international projects ($2,383) including cancer control, Leader Dog, speech and hearing, and the Lions Eye Bank in Indianapolis. The approved grants totaled $10,873. The Lions are also very grateful for the merchants who participate in this program. Without the merchants, there would be no DVCC.

Watch for the following club-sponsored events: Saturday, May 2, the Spring Blossom Parade will be held. This event attracts locals as well as tourists who enjoy the parade and who frequent shops and eateries.

The next event, the Spring Pancake Breakfast, is scheduled for Saturday, May 9 and this brings friends and families together to share good food and conversation. If you haven’t attended in the past, place it on your calendar and join us at the Parkview Church of the Nazarene Family Life Center.

This year, the annual fireworks display will be held on Saturday, July 4 or if it rains, Sunday, July 5. We are extremely grateful to many shop owners for their continued support of this event and we look forward to another exciting time this July 4 with family and friends.
