HAMBLEN TWP. — Police are still investigating a shooting that occurred on Petro Road on Feb. 21, but they have released the victim’s name.

Ronny Kim Wagers, 42, was found outside of a relative’s home on Petro Road, where he sometimes stays. He had been shot in his right side, near his liver and kidneys, Sheriff Scott Southerland said.

“It was not accidental and he has no idea who shot him,” Southerland said.

“He was shot in the side, but the shot came from some distance away.”

Wagers was flown to Indiana University Methodist hospital. As of Feb. 26, he was still in critical care, Southerland said.

Other people were at the home on Petro Road when the shooting happened, but they were on the other side of the house and did not see anything, Southerland said. They went to get help after the shooting.

“They didn’t have phone service, so they drove to the Gatesville Store to make the phone call,” he said.

The sheriff’s department does have suspects, but no arrests have been made. “About everybody is a suspect right now. We’re looking into everything, following up on all of the leads that we have,” Southerland said.

Tips are welcome and can be made by calling Brown County dispatch at 812-988-6655. Anonymous tips also can be made by calling 812-988-6620.

“I wish we had more, but we were working some 16- to 18-hour days Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We made progress, but we still have a long ways to go,” Southerland said.
