Letter: Join Old West enthusiasts at local convention

To the editor:

The Cowboys are back in town! You know us from the Nashville Spring Blossom Parade, now we’re coming to town for our national convention.

The convention is being held at The Seasons Lodge in Nashville, March 20-22. The opening ceremony begins Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the conference center with the presentation of the colors by NCOWS members. Next, we will have a special performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” by Tiffany Waldrip of Ellettsville.

Friday morning at 9 a.m. begins our seminars on a variety of interesting Old West topics. After the opening ceremony at 1 p.m. starts the Old West show and sale with quality vendors selling clothing, firearms, leather, books, period collectibles and more. There is a carnival style “shooting gallery” using replica Old West six shooters. For our registered members, there is even more: a ladies tea and the banquet on Saturday night.

After the Saturday night banquet, NCOWS members will be able to enjoy an Old West ball with a “dance mistress” who will call the steps for the dancers. The public can join in on practicing dancing with your partner Saturday afternoon at the seminar. There is sure to be a waltz or two and a Virginia reel.

Sunday morning we will end our convention with a worship service given by Dewayne Liebrandt, missionary to the deaf in Thailand and Columbia. We will then have a closing ceremony at 11:30 in the vendor hall.

The public is welcome to attend the seminars, vendor area and the “shooting gallery.” Single-day tickets to the seminars and vendors are available at the door for $5. Children (12 and younger) must be accompanied by an adult.

I want to end by saying thank you to everyone who helped out with the 2020 NCOWS Convention. You’ve put in lots of hard work.

Thank you,

Jim “High Card” Kakavecos, Fruitdale
