Student member needed on state commission

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is seeking applicants for a student commission member, who will be appointed by Gov. Eric Holcomb. The term will be July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2022.

The student member is a full voting member of the Commission for Higher Education, a 14-member coordinating body for the state’s public post-secondary education system. Aside from the student member, the commission consists of one faculty representative, one representative from each of the nine congressional districts in Indiana and three at-large members.

To qualify, a student may be a full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate student and must be enrolled through the spring 2022 semester at an Indiana public higher education institution and live in Indiana.

Candidates for the student member position must submit applications, letters of recommendation and a signed agreement to serve by Friday, April 17. A committee will review applications and notify those who will be selected for in-person interviews by Friday, May 1.

More information is available at in.gov/che/4874.htm.

Enrollment open for 21st Century Scholars

Applications for the 21st Century Scholar program are being accepted. The program offers income-eligible Hoosier students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school, dependent upon financial need.

In middle school and high school, scholars are connected to programs and resources the help them stay on track for college and career success.

Applications must be received by June 30 of the student’s eighth-grade year. Scholars pledge to graduate with a Core 40 diploma and cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.5. They also pledge to abstain from illegal drugs and alcohol and illegal activities.

For more information on requirements for the program, visit scholars.in.gov.
