Hoosier Artist Gallery has reopened to public

Hoosier Artist Gallery, 45 S. Jefferson St., reopened on May 22. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

To assist in complying with reopening regulations, the gallery will have hand sanitizer placed throughout the building. Visitors are encouraged to wear masks and maintain social distancing while in the gallery.

May’s featured artists are Gillian Harris and Dylan Quackenbush. Harris specializes in drawing, painting, illustrations and photography. Quackenbush works with ceramics.

Brown County Art Gallery closed until mid-June

After consulting with two physician board members and others, the Brown County Art Gallery Foundation Board decided that the gallery will remain closed until June 24, at which time conditions will be reevaluated.

When the gallery opens, staff will do regular deep cleanings and daily wipe-downs, and hand sanitizers will be placed throughout the building. Visitors and staff will be required to wear masks and maintain social distancing. The number of visitors allowed inside will be closely monitored.

In the meantime, the gallery is operating an online store at bcartgalleryonline.org.

Brown County Community Band concerts off

The Brown County Community Band has canceled its three concerts scheduled for May and June.

Bill Schnackel, president of the band’s board, encourages people to practice their instruments while socially distancing.

Teen program offering online music lessons

BETA is offering free, one-hour online music classes on the following schedule:

  • Tuesdays, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., “Everybody Rocks: rock band with Nathan Dillon;
  • Wednesdays, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., guitar lessons with Jeff Foster;
  • Thursdays, 4 to 5 p.m., drum lessons with Michael Wimer.

Those interested should contact Traci Lewis at [email protected]. Participants will get an email from the music teacher by the morning of the class with an invitation to join and a link to the Zoom lesson. Contact Lewis if a guitar or drum sticks are needed.

The lessons are free, made possible by a matching grant from the Brown County Community Foundation, an individual donor and the Lions Club.
