Letter: Contribute to help send free books to young children

0

To the editor:

In 1996 Dolly Parton implemented a program in Sevierville, Tennessee, that provided free books to children every month. It was so successful that other communities wanted to make it available for their children. In August 2008 Brown County and Nineveh implemented the program for our children.

Since 2009, over 62,000 books have been provided to children in Brown County. Approximately 450 children between the ages of 0 and 5 years old currently receive books each month. These books are provided through fundraising efforts of Brown County’s Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) affiliate and the Brown County Literacy Coalition.

A generous donor has agreed to sponsor a $1 for $1 match up to $20,000 to help raise money for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for Brown County. Half of the money raised will go directly to the cost of the books. The other half will go to build the Brown County Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Endowment Fund held at the Brown County Community Foundation.

Donations can be mailed to Brown County Literacy Coalition, P.O. Box 757, Nashville, IN 47448. Please indicate on the memo line “program match” or “endowment match.” For more information on this match opportunity or to get a child registered, contact Jenise Bohbrink at 260-410-1075 or [email protected].
