Poet’s Corner: Stand On This Stone; Taking in Love

Stand On

This Stone

Sometimes we find in ourselves

What we don’t see but by others.

Be with these people

Who see you

Your gifts

And give back to them, to others

What you have

By your own understanding

Empathy

Love

And your gift.

What we have is this moment

And perhaps others

And what we choose to be aware of

Our sense of spirit and ability

Can be lost

By the visceral need of this life on earth.

We will be overcome someday

By what life always gives and takes.

We have this special thing,

Both sacred and profane,

This confounding love,

That abides

Even when we are full of righteousness

Or seeking to atone

Find this infinite place

Stand on this stone.

— Neil Frederick, Nashville

Taking in Love

Love is the dirtiest tongue

Licking your face

A love, we can learn from

Be affirmed from

This unconditional loving place.
