JOHNSON COUNTY — A Brown County woman died Tuesday after an SUV struck the van she was driving head-on.

Dorothy Scott, 39, of Nashville, was rushed to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where she later died, Sheriff Duane Burgess said.

Just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, Scott was traveling westbound on State Road 44 in a minivan with four passengers. The SUV, driven by a Franklin teenager, was traveling eastbound when it crossed the centerline and crashed into the minivan, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

The driver of the SUV told deputies when she started to turn the wheel, she felt the SUV start to hydroplane. She closed her eyes and felt the impact of the crash, she said.

Scott and all four passengers — including three teenagers — were injured and taken to area hospitals due to severe bleeding, fractures and crush injuries. Scott’s most severe injury was to her lower leg, according to the report.

The driver of the SUV complained of pain and suffered a head injury, the report showed. She was also taken to an Indianapolis hospital, the report said.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office early Wednesday morning notified the sheriff’s office Scott had died at 9 p.m. Tuesday at the hospital, Burgess said.

State Road 44, between State Road 135 and Franklin, was closed for several hours while crews worked to clean up and investigate the crash.

The sheriff’s office, Bargersville Fire Department, Trafalgar Fire Department and medic crews from around the county responded.
