A local man was killed last night in a car crash on Clay Lick Road.

Dispatch alerted first responders of a single-vehicle accident at 5:41 p.m. in the 3700 block of Clay Lick Road.

Upon arrival, Brown County deputies located a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 inverted in the roadway.

An investigation showed that the driver — later identified as 50-year-old David Barnett — was traveling southbound on Clay Lick Road when his vehicle left the west side of the road for unknown reasons, according to the accident report from the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

The vehicle was partially in the roadway on its driver’s side with the front of the vehicle facing north, according to the report. Barnett was partially ejected from the truck.

Barnett was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Barnett’s wife arrived on scene and was informed of Barnett’s passing. She told police that Barnett was on his way to Nashville to pick up their son from football practice. She said she had received a call that he had not arrived and was not answering his phone.

She advised police that she left their residence to locate Barnett and came across the scene on Clay Lick Road. She advised police that Barnett was familiar with the road and drove it daily.

The crash remains under investigation.

The coroner, Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Department, IU Health – LifeLine EMS and Brown County Tire assisted at the scene.
