County remains at orange risk level

Brown County’s virus spread risk level remained at orange on the Indiana State Department of Health COVID-19 spread map last week.

Since last Monday, the county has picked up 33 new COVID cases.

Current Brown County COVID stats (counted since March 2020) and changes from Monday, Sept. 20 to Monday, Sept. 27 (in parentheses) are: 1,366 cases (up 33), 5,291 residents tested (up 54), 46 deaths (no change) and 8,048 residents at least partially vaccinated (up 66).

Our vaccination percentage is 53 percent.

ISDH also announced last week that booster doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine are available to eligible Hoosiers following a federal authorization of the additional dose.

The single booster dose can be given at least six months after completion of the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The booster is only available to those who have received the Pfizer vaccine. Those who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines are not eligible for a booster shot at this time.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend the following people should receive a booster dose: Anyone 65 and older and residents of long-term care facilities; individuals ages 50 to 64 with underlying medical conditions that put them at high risk of severe COVD-19.

The following people may receive a booster dose based on individual benefits and risk: Individuals ages 18 to 49 with underlying medical conditions; individuals ages 18 to 64 who are at high risk of COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of an occupational or institutional risk.

Anyone who wishes to get a booster, or a vaccine, can visit www.ourshot.in.gov to schedule an appointment.

Town receives wastewater grant

The Town of Nashville was one of 23 recipients in the state of Indiana to receive funding for wastewater projects.

The announcement was made Sept. 16 that Nashville received $2 million from the Indiana Finance Authority’s State Water Infrastructure Fund (SWIF) grants.

The goal of the program is to finance projects that protect and improve public health and water quality, satisfy a regional solution and provide substantial rate relief to Indiana utility customers most in need.
