Bible study

BEAN BLOSSOM — Brown County women are invited to attend Joy in the Morning, a non-denominational Bible study for women, at the Bean Blossom Community Church, 5046 State Road 135 North, on Thursday mornings, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The next meeting is Nov. 18.

Coffee and fellowship begins at 10 a.m. Childcare is provided and transportation is available if needed.

Besides the occasional purchase of the study guide, there is no cost to attend; an offering is taken for childcare. If you would like to attend and need a ride send an email to [email protected].

Salvation Army hosts 4Twelve

The Brown County Salvation Army, 168 S. Jefferson St., will host its weekly 4Twelve: Dinner, worship, games and fellowship for youth. The doors open at 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays with dinner at 6 p.m. and a lesson from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Veterans meetings

Veterans service organizations of Brown County have various meetings throughout the month, all meeting at Veterans Hall, 902 Deer Run Lane. The Veterans Hall is a government facility and is alcohol free.

Vietnam Veterans of Brown County meet on first Wednesdays. The next meeting is Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.

Veterans of Foreign Wars meet on second Thursdays. The next meeting is Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.

American Legion meets on third Wednesdays. The next meeting is Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.

Historical society meetings

The Brown County Historical Society holds informative and educational meetings throughout the year, and members receive a quarterly society newsletter and a monthly archives e-journal.

Membership is $10 for students, $20 for individuals and $35 for families.

General membership meetings are pitch-in dinners on the first Monday of every month, in the History Center’s Grand Hall, 90 E. Gould St., at 6:30 p.m. A brief business meeting follows dinner with a historically themed presentation afterwards.

The next meeting is on Dec. 6.

Pioneer Women’s Club

The Pioneer Women’s Club met on Nov. 3 to discuss this year’s purpose and leadership.

Those in attendance included President Brenda Main, Vice President Bonnie Bose, Treasurer Joyce Shook and Secretary Brenda Fowler. They will continue to meet every Wednesday on the bottom floor of the Brown County History Center, 70 Gould St.

The 2021 Quilt was made by Katrina Rose and Brenda Fowler. The 2022 Quilt will be made by Brenda Fowler, Mary George Kipp and Katrina Rose. A Thanksgiving lunch will take place at the Seasons Lodge that will be for members only.

The purpose of the club is to practice handcraft skills used by ancestors, to study and demonstrate old-time skills and to support and aid the Brown County Historical Society as resources permit.

The club is looking for new members. If interested, attend any meeting, except the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Hopeful Planters Garden Club

The Hopeful Planters Garden Club met at President Leah Mogle’s house for their first fall get together on Oct. 19.

The meeting was called to order by Mogle and it was decided the club should update the its bylaws. A bylaw committee was appointed with Mogle, Brenda Fowler, Judy Ford and Phyllis Riskey serving on that committee.

Other members present for the meeting were Wanda Lawson, Cathy Donaldson, Nancy Colvin, Ginny Knieper, Francie Eastridge, Pua Smith and Marilyn Mctee.
