Bluebird club

The Brown County Bluebird Club is again offering fully-assembled cedar bluebird nest boxes for $15 each or two for $25. If interested, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.

Rotary Club

The Brown County Rotary Club will welcome Deborah Herring, a founding member and treasurer of the Brown County Farmers Market, at their meeting on Thursday, April 21 beginning at 7:45 a.m.

Herring will discuss the farmers market’s origin, the growth in its product offerings and participating vendors, and how that growth enabled philanthropic activity.

Herring and husband Barry retired to Brown County in 2012. Three years later they bought the Brown County Inn and have managed it with their daughter Courtney and son-in-law Dietrich. Herring realized that the Brown County Inn’s parking lot would be a wonderful space for a farmers market and connected with some other people who were interested in starting one. From those connections, the farmers market has grown from about 10 vendors to about 25, experienced its best year last year and anticipates further growth this year.

Herring is a fourth generation Indiana resident. She earned a degree from Ball State University further cementing her Hoosier credentials. She also owns Ironweed Gifts and Floral on South Jefferson Street in downtown Nashville.

Members of the community, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to the community, are invited to attend in person at The Seasons Lodge in the Fireplace Lounge, 560 State Road 46 East or via Zoom using a link obtained by visiting www.RotaryClubofBrownCounty.org and clicking on the “Contact us” URL.
