Club news for week of May 11

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will welcome Brown County Middle School Principal Brian Garman at their meeting this week.

The club will meet at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 12. Garman will discuss STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) corporate projects for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students. The sixth- and seventh-grade students will work on smaller projects that build a foundation of knowledge and skills that enable them to accomplish a capstone project in eighth grade. The capstone projects will be organized and executed through science classes over the course of five or six weeks, guided by a master teacher and other STEM faculty, and supported by corporate sponsors.

Garman has been principal of BCMS for nine years. He earned a bachelor of science degree in secondary education and a master of science degree in curriculum and instruction, both from Indiana University. He also has a certification from Indiana Wesleyan in school administration.

Members of the community, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to the community, are invited to attend at The Seasons Lodge in the Fireplace Lounge, 560 State Road 46 East or via Zoom using a link obtained by visiting www.RotaryClubofBrownCounty.org and clicking on the “Contact us” URL.

Gardeners club

The Trafalgar Country Gardeners will hold their annual plant sale on May 21 from 9 a.m. until they are sold out. The sale will take place at the Trafalgar United Methodist Church, 375 Pleasant St.

Hundreds of starts of tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables will be available. Also for sale will be perennial plants such as hostas and daylillies.

All plants are grown by garden club members.

The sale is the club’s only fundraiser. Proceeds help pay for public gardening programs at the Trafalgar library, sponsorship of the annual Kids Garden Camp at the Johnson County Purdue Extension office, maintenance of demonstration gardens at the county fairgrounds and county museum and other community service projects.
