Letters to the editor for week of June 1

Annual Pioneer Women quilt exhibit returns

To the editor:

Looking for something do Friday, June 3 or Saturday, June 4? Stop by the Brown County History Center Hamilton Grand Hall for the 2022 Pioneer Women’s Club Quilt Exhibit.

Admission is free, but of course we will gratefully accept donations! Sponsors for the 2022 quilt exhibit include Laurie Teal O-R-G-A-N-I-Z-E-D Solutions, the Nashville Spice Company and the Yellow Door Quilt Store.

Visitors can view quilts from the collections of PWC members as well as a few quilts from the Historical Society Special Collection. In addition to seeing many never before displayed quilts, visitors can browse over 14 vendor booths and the well-known PWC Boutique.

Raffle tickets will be available for the donation quilt and the treasure baskets. All proceeds support the Brown County Historical Society and the History Center. Check out our website at browncountyhistorycenter.org to see some of the many activities the History Center offers.

After enjoying the quilt exhibit, be sure to take a walk through the Pioneer Village next door. The old jail is a favorite! Every Saturday this summer, Historical Society members will be in the village to answer questions or give insight to early Brown County times. Every Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. Barb Livsey is in the Loom Room cabin sharing early essential pioneer skills of dying, spinning and weaving.

There’s lots going on in Nashville! Consider a trip to the History Center soon!

Lake Monroe Watershed project wants your input

To the editor:

At a recent Brown County Radio Hour taping we interviewed Maggie Sullivan, the Lake Monroe watershed coordinator with Friends of Lake Monroe (FLM), regarding an upcoming event at our local library June 9. This interview will air on Sunday, June 5 at 9 a.m. and Wednesday, June 8 at 6 p.m. on WFHB 100.7 in Nashville. Or listen to all our shows on BrownCountyHour.com.

For the last several years, FLM has been monitoring and studying the health of Lake Monroe’s water, a reservoir that serves 130,000 for drinking water and untold more for recreation. Because over 50% of Lake Monroe’s watershed is in our county, FLM came to Brown County to solicit information and discuss concerns they (and we) had about water quality. Now, some two to three years later we will be able to hear the results of their studies and express our concerns or learn solutions to keeping this water fit to drink.

Please join us for this event, co-sponsored by our local Leagues of Women Voters of Brown County and Bloomington-Monroe County. It’s Thursday June 9 from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. at the Brown County Public Library lower level.

Register here for June 9 event: www.friendsoflakemonroe.org/events.

If you want to participate, but not gather in person you can attend a virtual zoom meeting on June 15, at 6:45 p.m. Register here: www.friendsoflakemonroe.org/events.

Event registration is encouraged but not required, except for the virtual event on June 15.

Visit www.friendsoflakemonroe.org/events for more information. Sullivan can be reached at 812-558-0217 or by emailing [email protected].

You may also contact LWVBC at [email protected] for more information.

I hope to see many of you there. It’s bound to be an interesting meeting.
