Unbreakable Bond: Beloved school admin reflects on time spent with students, favorite memories before retirement

The title of “administrative assistant” is awfully limiting when it’s next to the name Pam Bond. Known for her hard work and helpfulness, Bond is a beloved figure at Brown County High School, where she has held that title for the past several years. After the end of this school year, however, she is stepping away from her position to, according to her, “have a new adventure.”

Bond said via email last week that she grew up in a little suburb outside of Houston. Her family moved during her senior year to Kentucky, where most of her extended family lives. Bond attended college in Cincinnati and married her husband, Tim, who is a minister. The two came to Nashville when he became the minister of Nashville Christian Church in July 1999. She specified that they are not related to any of the long-standing Brown County Bonds.

Not long after settling in Nashville, a paraprofessional position opened up for Brown County schools and Maury Smith, the principal at that time, encouraged her to apply. Her journey with the schools began there.

Bond was in that position for five years before moving to the high school, where she was the attendance secretary for one year, and then took her current job as administrative assistant. She said she has enjoyed all her positions, but the current one is her favorite.

There aren’t many boring days working in schools and it has been a great experience,” Bond said. “I have loved my job, my colleagues, and especially the students. Working in the same building my daughter teaches in is also a wonderful opportunity. The end of the day bus radio provides some fun with stories about peacocks, donkeys, turtles, and more on the road! Senior pranks, awards ceremonies, first day of the school year, graduation and all the fun that comes with working with 500 teenagers, I will miss all of it! I still love what I do here but just felt like it was time to have a new adventure. I didn’t want to overstay my welcome here and my plan is to find a new job but not in public education. My heart is here with BCS.

“Brown County Schools and our BC community have been good to me,” Bond continued. “Please continue to support our schools and staff. People outside of education have no idea what the little encouraging notes, treats, and support does for our staff. Your support is crucial; it pays off in the classroom and our students are the ones that are truly rewarded with an excellent education! You asked me what I would like to say to our community, me personally , I say, THANK YOU for the support. I ask that you pay attention to what is happening in our schools, to our educators, and to our students. Be careful not to believe everything you see on social media; check out the facts! Be a supporter, speak up, vote for what is best for our students!”
