Sign on the road shows loss of civility in politics

To the editor:

Like many Brown County residents I spend a fair amount of time on the road. Lanam Ridge is my usual route into town. As I was driving I came upon a political sign attached to the entrance of someone’s property.

The sign had the name Biden in large block letters under a picture of a defecating dog. At first I was shocked, then disgusted, then angry and now I am just disheartened. It seems any shred of civility has been lost. Why has it become the norm to be crass to express political displeasure? There are many ways to express opposing political views without being crude or inappropriate.

Politics in this country have become so polarized that a civil discourse cannot occur without disparaging the other party. That sign would still be offensive no matter what name was on it.

Respectfully submitted,

Catch all the buzz at upcoming Pollinator Fest

To the editor:

Mark your calendars! The League of Women Voters of Brown County (LWVBC) is planning a Community Conversation on Pollinator Habitat. This event is open to the public and will be held Saturday, July 22, at the Exhibit Hall at the Brown County Fairgrounds from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. Our goal is to provide the community with education on pollinator habitat, including what it is, why it’s important, native plants and trees vs. invasive plants and trees, and how everyone can make a difference. The planned schedule is:12:30-3:30 p.m. Exhibitor tables with resources for the public and lots of great info for kids

1:30-2:30 p.m. Panel discussion with speakers on pollinators, native plants, invasive plants

We welcome groups from around the county who are working to support pollinators and our ecosystems to exhibit at this event. If interested, please contact the League at [email protected].

There will be children’s activities, such as a native animal exhibit, so families are welcome and encouraged to attend. More information, including panelists and exhibitors, will be posted soon on our website — www.lwvbrowncounty.org — and in our June newsletter.

When it comes to noise, size matters

To the editor:

How is it that a 500-pound motorcycle is allowed to make more noise than a 50,000-pound concrete truck?
