Housing Partnership Initiative – A Need for Brown County

0

Dear Editor,

For decades and decades, affordable housing has been identified as a priority for Brown County in multiple needs assessments and studies. Since 1990 Brown County Indiana Habitat for Humanity has attempted to meet that demand, but it cannot do so alone. It is imperative that a Housing Partnership be formed in our community to analyze, discuss, and create solutions to address the housing situation. A vibrant healthy community is where families can afford to raise their children, employees can live near their work, and schools can generate synergy for the community.

The Indiana Uplands Regional Housing Study of September 2019 estimates that by 2030 Brown County will need 145 owner occupied homes and 148 rental units. Housing as a first objective for low-income families has been proven to stabilize communities. When people live in decent, affordable homes, homeowners and their families have opportunity to improve their health, educational attainment, safety, and ultimately generational wealth.

In order to ensure that affordable housing continues to be an increasing community initiative, Habitat for Humanity is searching for community members to join with them in developing a collaborative Housing Partnership.

If interested in the Housing Partnership initiative, contact Sue Lindborg, President, BCIHFH [email protected] or call 812-320-1926.
