Brownie: Contact information for elected officials

0

What’s a hard working P.I. to do? I’m just trying to get a break and follow my man Dave Brubecks’s advice and take five … but the questions keep pouring in. That’s OK though, see? When I hung that shingle out and stenciled the name Brownie on the frosted glass door, I knew what I was getting myself into. And hey, a guy’s gotta stay busy, right? Idle hands and all that.

Hats off to Gary and Chris Eickleberry this week for their question. And they made this one pretty easy, meaning I didn’t have to travel too far to get the straight scoop.

Here’s their question:

“My husband Gary Eickleberry asked, why doesn’t the Democrat paper publish the contact information for our elected state and federal representatives anymore? There used to be a small part of a page listing names and contact info in every issue … the bobcat letter to the editor mentioned contacting our reps, but it’s so easy to lose track of this info. Can the paper start providing this info again?

Thanks, Brownie! Your column is great … it adds a nice personal touch.

Sincerely, Gary and Chris Eickleberry, Brown County

Well first off, Chris and Gary, thanks for the question – and even more, thanks for the praise. It’s not necessary, but a tip of the fedora to youse all!

In order to get the straight scoop, I turned to the old man at the D, Tim Timmons. He’s been keeping the editor’s seat warm since last spring and is the guy who can get us an answer.

“Thanks for a great question, Gary and Chris,” Timmons wrote. “And thanks Brownie for passing it along. It’s a great idea. I don’t know when it was done here, but we sure can start it again.

“We’ll talk to the page designers, but our preliminary plan will be to put it across the bottom of our Opinion Page each week, or at least most weeks. Space can sometimes be an issue.

“For right now, I’ll give the federal, state and local info to Brownie so he can share with you. And thanks again, we really appreciate the idea and the feedback!”

So there you go – ask a straight question and Brownie gets the straight answer. And it looks like there’s already another one lined up for next week, so you know what they say – no rest for the weary!
