To the editor:
When we saw the headline in this past week’s paper, we were shocked. After much thought, we have concluded that this letter is necessary.
As far as we know, no true forum which seemed designed to solicit genuine input from our county’s residents on the viability of the proposed Maple Leaf project has taken place.
We are involved Brown County citizens who have held both volunteer positions and business interests here for decades. Numerous friends and associates who likewise care a great deal about our community have expressed serious reservations to us concerning the proposed facility.
Not one has felt that such a potentially mammoth community change (and financial obligation) should be decided in the manner that it seems to be going. Those people, like we, are not inclined to support or oppose the vision of a group of dedicated volunteers without being thoroughly informed.
In good conscience we must make our feelings known. If the county is taking on such a huge project, citizens must be given a true opportunity to explore the many aspects of the venture including potential financial and possible social consequences that we all might be assuming.
