Letter: Peaceful Valley Heritage thanks its supporters

To the editor:

Peaceful Valley Heritage Preservation Society Inc., a/k/a Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc. ( a 501(c)(3) membership organization), became incorporated in January of 2015 following several meetings with members of the historical society, Indiana Landmarks, and other lifelong and public-spirited members in the community. We are a group striving to preserve Brown County’s beautiful landscapes, historic buildings and heritage for all to learn about and enjoy. We hope to “enrich our community by valuing its past.”

During this time we have accomplished some of our goals and are working on others. Without the outstanding support of our community, we would not be able to do this. We therefore felt it important to make you aware and express our gratitude to our sister organization, the Brown County Historical Society, Indiana Landmarks and the Howard F. Hughes Fund for repairs to the Pioneer Village and Old Log Jail; the Brown County Community Foundation and several donors for the Bill Monroe state marker; the genealogical society, Indiana Historical Society and Brown County Community Foundation for grants to our cemetery committee for the restoration of the Henry Cross tombstones; and Brown County Parks and Recreation for the clearance of the Bean Blossom Overlook.

Peaceful Valley Heritage is also applying for a Frank Hohenberger historic marker, as well as nominating the Brown County State Park with its historic district as a national historic site, with the help of and a donation from Indiana Landmarks. More recently, we appreciate Bruce Gould working with us to save and move the Dennis Calvin House. We have also been extremely fortunate to have several dedicated and anonymous members, who have donated their time and money, and the ongoing pledge made by the owners of Story Inn, all of which will help Peaceful Valley Heritage continue preserving Brown County’s rich heritage.

Our Brown County community and Indiana Landmarks have been instrumental in accomplishing our past, current and future goals. We also appreciate the coverage the Brown County Democrat has given us. Look for some exciting news in the near future about a true preservation ordinance that the Nashville Town Council is agreeing to review with Indiana Landmarks.

New members and/or donations are always welcome. We meet the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Howard F. Hughes Community Building. You can also find us on Facebook and our website, peacefulvalleyheritage.com.

Respectfully,

The directors of Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc. (submitted by Dorothy Babcock)
