Letter: Support food backpack program at craft fair Saturday

To the editor:

On Saturday, Dec. 8 Creekside Retreat is hosting a Holiday Arts and Crafts Show to benefit Brown County Weekend Backpacks Inc.

In the ad in the paper it is advertised as Brown County Schools Weekend Backpack program. We are actually not a part of the school system but a community-led program that works with the schools to provide bags of food for students needing food for the weekends. We have been packing 144 bags of food each week.

We want to thank Creekside Retreat and the artists and vendors at the show for providing a portion of their sales for BCWB.

Creekside Retreat has suggested that this be a drop-off site for food donations as well. Food that is needed and can be dropped off at the event includes the following:

Cans of spaghetti and meatballs

Cans of mixed vegetables

Cans of peas

Boxes of individually wrapped cookies

Mac and cheese

Individual fruit cups and applesauce

Or you may send monetary donations to: BCWB, P.O. Box 160, Nashville, IN 47448.

Thank you for your donations and we hope to see you at the arts and craft show.

Jan Swigert, president of the board, Brown County Weekend Backpacks Inc.
