Letter: Victorian tea’s theme was silver all around

To the editor:

Thank you to all who attended the Annual Victorian Tea at the Brown County Art Gallery on Sunday, April 14. This event, which benefits the gallery foundation, was held for the amazing 25th year, and your support is greatly appreciated.

The guests enjoyed a delicious traditional afternoon tea prepared by Kevin Ault of Hotel Nashville and tea provided by The Candy Emporium. There was an additional amount of gleaming silver in the gallery this year. Centerpieces of white roses on each table were either in silver teapots or pitchers, as well as a silver favor for each guest. A silver tea service was one of the raffle items and guests enjoyed seeing and hearing about “Entertaining with Silver in the Victorian Era,” with pieces from the collection of our speaker, Jane Edwards. This year we also held a competition for the Best Hat and Best Tea Attire, with gift certificates for dinner at the Hotel Nashville for the winners.

Thank you to our generous sponsor, Hotel Nashville, and our vendors who donated 20 percent of their sales to the gallery foundation: Brown County Winery, Heritage Candy Store and The Wild Olive.

Thank you also to my tea committee: Brenda Kelley, Carol Roberts, Jan Percifield, Kevin Ault, Pam Crawford and Paula Sexton, as well as our gallery Manager Jeanne Bennett, and all the volunteers on tea day.

A special thank-you for the eighth year to artist association member Jodie Friend for donating her beautiful painting, “Near the Garden,” for our raffle.

Thank you, one and all, for everything you have done to make our fundraiser a success.

Be sure to join us next year for our 26th Annual Victorian Tea on Sunday, April 5. Mark Schmidt, of The Nashville Spice Company, will tell us all about the exotic world of spices.
