Letter: Thank you to 4th Grade Field Day sponsors

To the editor:

The Brown County Soil and Water Conservation District staff and board of supervisors would like to thank all community members that were a part of this year’s 4th Grade Field Day. The 4th Grade Field Day event is for all fourth-grade students in Brown County. The students explore natural resources through hands-on activity stations at the Brown County State Park.

This is an event that we host annually, but this year the community support was unlike any other. We work hard to make this event better every year and worthwhile for all participants. The community stepped in to help with much of the costs and needs.

The Brown County Community Foundation helped us greatly by completely providing the cost of bus transportation for the day. The Friends of Brown County State Park supplied funds for the lunch that was provided to all teachers, presenters and volunteers. The Brown County Lions Club helped to cover the cost of the shirts for all teachers and students.

Financial assistance is not the only help that is needed for 4th Grade Field Day.

Brown County Schools science teachers provided a link between us and the schools. They also helped on the planning committee. Brown County Purdue Extension provided planning assistance as well as additional day of coordination. Brown County State Park offered us the use of their pavilions and green spaces for stations. All presenters volunteered their services, greatly helping with the sustainability of this event. Lastly, many community members offered their time to help presenters run stations.

All of the above support ensures that this event can remain free for all students. Year after year, the response to this event is positive. Teachers and presenters look forward to returning. We are very grateful to have a community that joins with us to make 4th Grade Field Day possible every year.
