PET TAILS: Long-stay cats that are perfect in their own way

No one is perfect. You love your spouse, but there might be a few things that aren’t perfect. Your kids are the light of your life, but they aren’t perfect either.

Same goes for pets: None are perfect, but they all are worthy of being loved and having a happy home.

Ori and Nacho Momma are two cats at the shelter that aren’t perfect in every way, but are perfect in their own way. Both need a loving home.

A gorgeous gray kitty cat with beautiful amber eyes, Ori is a young guy with lots of energy. He loves to jump high in the air to catch a feather toy and then curl up in your arms when he’s ready to nap — the perfect blend of playful and affectionate. Ori came to the shelter with his siblings when he was just a baby at 16 weeks old. Six months later, he is still there.

Nacho Momma is a sophisticated senior cat who loves nothing more than to follow her foster mom around the house and curl up for long naps in the sun. But, she isn’t too old to enjoy a short, yet energetic, bout with a laser pointer, her favorite toy. Five months after arriving at the shelter, she is still there.

Shortly after arriving at the shelter, both developed diarrhea. After multiple trips to the vet it was determined that they had feline coronavirus (not that same as the coronavirus causing the current pandemic in humans). This virus is not contagious to people and many cats have it without consequences, but for some reason, Ori and Nacho couldn’t fight it off.

Each spent time in a foster home and with lots of TLC, the right food and medication, their diarrhea resolved. But, they are still not perfect. This unfortunate history of diarrhea is hampering their ability to get adopted. Yes, they should each probably be an only kitty, and yes, in a very small percentage of cases, that virus can mutate and cause problems, but they each have so much love and life to bring to a family, they deserve to be in loving homes now.

Ori and Nacho Momma are not perfect. And they don’t require a perfect person to adopt them. All they need is someone with a heart big enough to love them.

If you are looking for young and playful, Ori is your guy. If you prefer cuddles and a calm companion, Nacho Momma is the perfect fit.

If you or anyone you know is interested in adding a lot of love to their family, contact the shelter at 812-988-7362 or complete an online adoption application to set a time to meet these two perfectly imperfect pets. www.bchumane.org/adopt.
