Artists, volunteers sought for mountain bike event
Local artists are asked to lend their art related to Brown County State Park and mountain biking for display during the Hoosier Epic Mountain Biking event, Friday, Oct. 12. The annual event will take place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12 and 13, at the state park.
As an official sponsor of the event, the Nashville Arts and Entertainment Commission will have a table to pass out local art-related literature and make contact with the 600 expected participants.
Volunteers are also sought to help both days, to greet mountain bikers and promote Brown County art. The event is supported by a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission.

Free music series planned for Village Green
A series of free Saturday concerts by local musicians is planned from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Village Green Pavilion, as follows:
- Oct. 13 — The 1, 4, 5 Band
- Oct. 20 — Celtica
The concerts, at West Main and Jefferson streets, are sponsored by the town of Nashville, Johnson Family Charitable Fund, Brown County Community Foundation, Brozinni’s Pizzeria, Brown County Enrichment for Teens Association Inc. (BETA) and Nashville Arts and Entertainment Commission volunteers.
Art classes offered Saturdays at gallery downtown
B3 Gallery, upstairs at 61 W. Main St., will offer the following afternoon art classes:
1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 — Introduction to Handmade Journals by Lynne Medsker requires no prior experience. Learn the materials and techniques needed to create your own covers, liner and pages, then assemble them into a journal.
1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 17 — Art on Record by Medsker will use old record albums, paint, paper and found objects to create a circular mixed media art piece.
Classes range in price from $15 to $65 per person.

Handmade market in October accepting vendors
The Brown County Handmade Market, Parkview Church of the Nazarene’s craft show extravaganza, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.
The market will feature a variety of artisans selling one-of-a-kind handmade and upcycled creations, including accessories, home decor, apparel, holiday items, gifts and more. It will include vendors and food, seating areas, a photo booth and a children’s activity area.
Vendor applications for handcrafted items are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis by application date. Booth rent proceeds will benefit the ministries of Parkview Church of the Nazarene. For applications and event details, visit BCHandmadeMarket.com.

The B3 Gallery in Nashville is hosting a “Visual Reflections” exhibit featuring work by Bloomington photographer Tom Duffy.
The exhibit will run through Oct. 22. Duffy has been shooting fine art photography for 15 years. He works with both film and digital, according to a press release from the galley.
“Visual Reflections” features landscape photos from all over the country, including Indiana.
Duffy also makes still light photography using a light painting technique where he uses a soft LED light to illuminate an image during long exposures in total darkness.
“I have always been fascinated by the rich and diverse character of our Earth. My goal in photographing is to share my perception of the richness and diversity,” Duffy said.
Those still life images are sold at B3’s sister gallery, Ascension Fine Arts in Nashville. Both galleries are at 61 W. Main St.

Register for pARTake fall workshops
PARTake painting workshops will be conducted from 2 to 4 p.m. one Saturday per month this fall at the Brown County Community Foundation, 209 N. Van Buren St. Workshops include “Autumn Landscapes” with Anabel Hopkins on Oct. 20; and “Sunflowers” with Watkins on Nov. 17.
All materials, instruction and light refreshments will be provided. Members of the Brown County Art Alliance can take the class for $35; others pay $40 per person.

Artists would have a co-op type arrangement but with no work requirements.

Shared art studio space available in town
B3 Gallery has created a space for artists and the community to come together.
S3, the Nashville “shared studio and maker space” is on the second floor of the gallery at 61 W. Main St. It is a meeting area for artists, craftspeople, inventors, clubs, seminars, classes or individuals.
S3 can provide painting and drawing easels, an alternative process darkroom, macro photography equipment, a digital projector, a glass annealing kiln and burnout kiln, PCB etching equipment and tanks, leaded glass tools, metal forming and casting tools, electronics and robotics fabrication tools, various computer numerical control tools, a scroll saw, band saw, drill press, centrifuge, bench grinder/polisher, laser cutter/engraver, air compressor, vacuum pumps and chemistry vent hood.
The organizers seek “fun, energetic, enthusiastic and creative people to bring life to the space.”
Donations of under-utilized equipment or specialty tools also are being accepted.
