Letter: Judge candidate explains qualifications, priorities

To the editor:

In just two weeks, on Nov. 6, Brown County will select its local, state and federal government officials. As one of the candidates for circuit court judge, I urge everyone to get out and vote, either on Election Day or by taking advantage of our county’s early voting at the courthouse annex.

I’m asking for your vote because I know that I have the qualifications and ability to be a great judge for Brown County. I have practiced as both a deputy prosecutor and as a private attorney; I have experience in criminal prosecution and defense, as well as many areas of civil law. I am very knowledgeable about the current drug crisis and am proactively seeking options to combat it. I will bring a fresh perspective and problem-solving approach to the bench.

I want to seek out areas for improvement while retaining the things that already make our court great. For instance, I plan to move cases through the court’s calendar efficiently without forfeiting the parties’ rights or a just resolution. I intend to offer the current court staff the opportunity to remain in their current positions. I will listen to and carefully consider the evidence presented, and weigh that evidence when making decisions based on the law and facts of the case.

A judge’s first priority must be the fair and equal application of the law. I believe a great judge’s second priority is seeking solutions to the problems before him, effectively incorporating current best practices into his courtroom and decision-making. These things, and more, are what I can bring to the bench in Brown County.

Sincerely,

Kristopher Kritzer, candidate for Brown Circuit Court judge
