Letter: If health care is a concern, vote for Liz Watson

To the editor:

Hoosier families want a congressional representative who will fight for affordable health care for all. Trey Hollingsworth, our current representative, voted for a health care bill that would have raised premiums substantially, especially for those with pre-existing conditions. It is estimated that 300,000 Hoosiers would have lost coverage, with premium increases averaging $3,200 per year for those 50 to 64. The bill cut funding for medicaid by $880 billion. His proposal would take care of millionaires by an average tax break of $50,000 per year.

Hollingsworth, a multi-millionaire from Tennessee, accepted $100,000 in donations from big insurance companies. It appears the companies got their money’s worth. If you want to ask him why he supported such harmful legislation, good luck! He does not appear at town halls, refuses to debate, nor is his schedule available.

Liz Watson, running against Hollingsworth, is a fifth-generation Hoosier who has pledged to fight for affordable health care for everyone. She is not taking any money from corporate PACs and will fight to protect Hoosiers, not millionaires and the insurance industry. Liz has attended many town halls in our district and asked Hollingsworth to debate several times. A vote for Liz is a vote for a Hoosier, who will listen, and who understands the importance of health care for all.
