Club news for week of Nov. 6

Pioneer Women

The Pioneer Women’s Club meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the History Center, 90 E. Gould St. Interested women are welcome.

Woodworkers club

The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the Brown County Library. Kip May will present the program, “Photography and Your Woodworking Projects.”

Rotary club

Lyn Letsinger-Miller will discuss the 2015 renovation and expansion of the Brown County Art Gallery when the Brown County Rotary Club meets for breakfast Thursday, Nov. 8 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St. The club will meet at 7:15 a.m.

President of the gallery’s foundation, Letsinger-Miller, will talk about the expansion which added 8,000 square feet, creating one of the largest art centers in the Midwest and bringing recognition on a national scale.

After graduating from Indiana University, Letsinger-Miller worked as a journalist and television news producer in Indianapolis, a journalism instructor at IU and a writer for the Brown County Democrat. She is a co-owner of Brown County Fine Arts and Vision Ventures Video Productions. She is also the author of “The Artists of Brown County,” published by IU Press.

Members of the community are welcome at the meeting, especially those interested in learning about and helping with Rotary activities and projects.

Genealogy group

“From Pennsylvania to Indiana” will be discussed when the Brown County Genealogical Society meets from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Brown County Public Library. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month at the library, 205 Locust Lane.

Art alliance

The next Art Alliance Brown County meeting will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Nashville Metropolitan Police Station, 200 Hawthorne Drive.

All artists working or living in Brown County are welcome. Guests can bring a work in progress and food/drink to share as desired.

The agenda includes opportunities to network and socialize; nominations for next year’s executive board; viewing of the new mural in the police station, painted by alliance volunteers at the request of Chief Ben Seastrom; a request from BETA (Brown County Enrichment for Teens Association) for ideas/commitments from artists to join and support BETA in its new space at 175 S. Jefferson St.; a discussion of ONRAMP, an Indiana Arts Commission workshop, which will be hosted in Nashville this spring by the Nashville Arts and Entertainment Commission; the maple syrup festival planned for March; a request from the Bloomington plein air group for help from the alliance to organize a joint paint-out in Brown County; and other business.

Widowed group

The Brown County Widowed Group will meet for lunch at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Brown County Inn, 51 State Road 46 East.

League of Women Voters

The League of Women Voters of Brown County has a monthly board meeting from 10 a.m. to noon the second Monday of each month. Meetings are conducted in lower-level meeting room A of the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane. The next meeting will be Nov. 12. The public is welcome.

Cemetery society

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, meets at 4:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. The next meeting will be Nov. 13. The public is welcome.

Preservation group

The Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc. preservation group meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Howard F. Hughes Community Building, 209 N. Van Buren St. All are welcome.

Photography club

The Brown County Photography Club meets from 7 to 9 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month in a lower-level room at the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane. The next meeting will be Nov. 13. Anyone interested in photography is always welcome at meetings.

Members of the club currently have photos for sale at the Daily Grind, 114 S. Van Buren St. Photos will be shown on a rotating basis.

WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meetings will be Nov. 15 and Dec. 6 at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.

Herb society 

The Brown County Herb Society has changed its meeting time from 6:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Meetings are still the third Monday of each month in a lower-level room at the Brown County Public Library. The next meeting will be Nov. 19, featuring the herb bay leaf. The public is welcome.

Garden club
