Club news for week of Sept. 4

Woodworkers club

VAN BUREN TWP. — The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. at the home of Fred Mueller, 8536 Grandview Road. Carpool from Nashville or the Van Buren Elementary lot if possible.

Pioneer Women

The Pioneer Women’s Club meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. Interested women are welcome.

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

David A. Brenneman will be the guest speaker. Brenneman is the Wilma E. Kelley Director of the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art, one of the foremost university art museums in the United States, renamed from the Indiana University Art Museum in honor of a $15 million gift from the Eskanazis.

The Eskanazi Museum was dedicated by I.M. Pei, its architect, in 1982 and was closed on May 15, 2017, for renovation by the architectural firms of Ennead Architects of New York City and Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf of Indianapolis. For the past two years, Brenneman has been overseeing the renovation in addition to preparing new features and programs designed to connect students and others with amazing works of art. He will discuss the renovation and provide a preview of what to expect when the museum reopens this fall.

Members of the community — especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to the  community — are welcome to attend.

Veteran Bible study

The Brown County Veteran’s Chaplain Corps Bible Study for Veterans meets the first Thursday of each month at Veterans Hall, 902 Deer Run Lane, from 9 to 10 a.m. The next meeting will be Sept. 5. For more information, call 317-439-0207.

Free Photography Workshop

The Brown County Photography Club will sponsor a free interactive workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the lower level of the Brown County Library, 205 Locust Lane. Anyone with an interest in photography is welcome to attend and learn more about depth of field and how it can affect your photos.

Participants should bring their camera and a tripod, if possible.

Cemetery preservation

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St., Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 4:15 p.m.

The society is a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group. All are welcome.

Peaceful Valley Heritage

Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc., a preservation group, meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at the Brown County Community Foundation building, 209 N. Van Buren St., on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Genealogical society

The Brown County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane. Brent Gill will speak on Native American history, culture and tradition.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, member Kathy Evans will speak about “Things You Wish You’d Found,” some unusual sources of genealogical information, starting at 1 p.m.

Widowed group

The Brown County Widowed Group will meet at 2:30 pm on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Sycamore Valley Community Center on the fairgrounds. The topic for discussion will be “What Makes People Laugh? Members are asked to bring examples for discussion.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society meets the third Monday of each month. The club will meet in the lower level at the Brown County Public Library on Monday, Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. All are welcome to join.
