Letter: Thanks for successful humane society fundraiser

To the editor:

Four days after the big event at the Bean Blossom Animal Clinic, Dr. Brester’s daughter commented, “My dad still has a big smile on his face. He truly had a great time!”

And a great time it was! Best guess is about 200 people came out to greet Dr. Brester and to support the new animal shelter.

Over $32,000 was raised to meet the $100,000 challenge. The afternoon was kicked off by a generous donation from the current owners of the Bean Blossom Animal Clinic. Both Dr. Finney and Dr. Mills spoke of the legacy Dr Brester had built and their desire to continue it. Supporting the Brown County Humane Society was a passion of Dr. Brester’s and the current clinic owners are following in those footsteps.

DJ Guy Knaus was instrumental in entertaining the crowd and encouraging people to generously donate. Thanks to his knack for getting people on stage lots of Doc Brester stories were told. Stories of his compassion, work ethic and humor were told by clients, employees and family. Thank you Guy for making the day a success!

The Brown County Humane Society is grateful that several businesses and individuals were able to provide discounts and donations to make the day possible. Those include Seward Party Rentals, Apple Works, Not Just Popcorn, Backyard Greenhouse, Joey Dallas and Donna Braas. In addition, the committee who organized this event generously donated their time and supplies. They include Sue Ahbe, Mary Jo Conley, Pam Crawford, Anna Brester Gartner, Megan Gushwa, Erika Imhoof, Rebecca Robertson and Jane Weatherford.

Dr. Brester is truly a Brown County legend. For anyone who was not able to make it to the event and wants to support the effort to secure the naming rights for the Dr. Brester Animal Treatment Room in the new animal shelter, gifts will continue to be matched through Oct. 31 by the Howard Hughes Passthrough Legacy Fund at the Brown County Community Foundation.
