PET TAILS: Help these long-stay shelter pets find homes

Moby has spent nearly two years at the Brown County Humane Society shelter. Submitted photo

Some of the cats and dogs that come to the Brown County Humane Society are adopted quickly. They are a great fit for most homes and families.

Others take more time. Perhaps they need to be an only pet, or they are shy, or maybe they have special needs. Their great home is out there, it just takes time to find.

These pets have all been at the shelter much longer than usual. Each of them will be a wonderful companion. We hope you will consider adopting them, or share their stories so that their great homes can be found.

MOBY

Time at shelter: 22 months.

Moby is a soulmate dog, a companion-on-the- journey-of-life dog. He’s a dog that people write books or sing songs about. Moby’s soul is deep and his character is strong. He’s led more life than many, which makes it even more special to see him experiencing so much joy now. Watching this whale of a boy cuddle and groom his fluffy fish toy, or seeing his face light up with happiness as he chases a frog through the creek will melt your heart. Feeling him lean his body into you, accepting you as his friend, is an honor.

Some scary experiences in his past make Moby wary of strangers, but he has learned to warm up quickly with friends. A free consultation with a trainer will be provided to his adopter to learn how to manage Moby’s greetings. He should be the only pet in the home.

Moby now has his own Facebook page to tell his story. You can find it at facebook.com/MobilizingForMoby.

PATCHES

Time at the shelter: 6 months.

Patches is a sweet, sensitive, distinguished soul who loves to relax in (or under) his cozy bed. As an older gentleman, he’s very laid back and well behaved. He’d be more than content to chill on the couch with you or sit in the window watching the world go by. He enjoys toys and is very curious, but he doesn’t require a lot of extra play time. He’s very gentle and quiet, and is also declawed.

Like many pets that arrive at the shelter, Patches came in when his guardian passed away. As an older cat of 11 years, he was already facing a challenge for adoption. Add to that a few medical issues and things became more difficult. He is on a special diet that can be a bit more expensive and he may require some follow-up care, but for the person who can help with that, he will be a wonderful companion.

If you would like to learn more about Moby or Patches, please call the shelter at 812-988-7362 to speak with one of the animal care staff.
