Letter: ‘Disappointed’ in senators’ impeachment behavior

To the editor:

I am deeply disappointed by the unwillingness of our senators to fulfill both their oath of office and their impeachment trial oath. Rather than defend the constitution and the principles upon which our republic was founded, they chose to obediently defend their party leader and, in the process, weaken the ability of the legislative branch to fulfill its balance of power responsibilities. Their refusal to call witnesses or consider documents that could shed light on the facts of the case made a mockery of the Senate’s vital role.

I am ashamed of our senators and will endeavor to ensure that, in the future, we elect senators who will take their oath as a sacred promise rather than a meaningless ritual that is subservient to their party loyalty.
