To the editor:
Happy New Year to all my fellow Brown Countians!
As we ring in 2021, let us find find hope in its possibilities, leaving behind the losses and frustrations that weigh us down. Best wishes to all!
Baggage
by Laura Bulla
I saw a woman walking
the sidewalk trail of homelessness
Burdened under baggage
She swayed and yanked
A Rythmic Dance
Laboring her way along the daily course
that drove her
between foodline and tent.
Left arm shouldering long-strapped bags
that slid down to elbow
every few steps
She paused, then lurched them back in place
the backpack on her right shoulder shifted
following gravity around to chest
Her body arched to heave it back
Another step forward then
pause again with fingers clenched
around the handle of the suitcase
that rolled obediently behind her.
I saw a woman walking
the sidewalk trail of homelessness
burdened under baggage
