Heads up, drivers: More paving starts this week

Paving on Owl Creek Road is expected to start this week, kicking off three weeks of scheduled road improvements on four other county roads.

Crews will be out on Owl Creek Road starting tomorrow, Aug. 25. Paving will continue until Aug. 27, according to E&B Paving.

In June, the Brown County Commissioners awarded E&B Paving a contract for $3,118,771 to pave portions of the following county roads: Lanam Ridge Road (4.15 miles); Woodland Lake Road (2 miles); Hurdle Road (2 miles); Spearsville Road (2 miles); Three Story Hill Road (3.4 miles); Parkview Road (1 mile); Hornettown Road (3.5 miles); and Owl Creek Road (2.5 miles).

From Aug. 29 to Sept. 2 paving will happen on Lanam Ridge Road. Hornettown Road is scheduled to be paved from Sept. 6 to 9.

Spearsville Road will be paved on Sept. 10, 12 and 13. Finally, Hurdle Road will be paved from Sept. 15 to 17.

Dates for the paving of Woodland Lake, Three Story Hill and Parkview roads were not immediately available.

Paving of those eight county roads is funded by local sources. The commissioners also budgeted $800,000 out of the $3 million capital improvement loan that was approved last year to help with paving costs this year.

Once paving is complete, it will bring the number of roads paved in the county this summer to seven.

Late last month paving began on Clay Lick Road and once completed Milestone Contractors crews paved Helmsburg Road, which wrapped up this month.

Paving Helmsburg and Clay Lick roads is funded by the Indiana Department of Transportation’s $1 million Community Crossings grant the county was awarded late last year. The grant requires a match of 25% of the money awarded, up to $1 million.
