The Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane, will host several events in November for all ages.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 16, 10:30 a.m., Pre-K Days: Words &Wiggles, Creative movement and dance followed by open play time. For ages 0-6.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 16, Book Bike will visit the Courthouse at 1:45 p.m., Willow Manor at 2:15 p.m. and Hawthorne Hills at 2:30 p.m. Holds can be placed from the website (BrownCountyLibrary.info/catalog) by selecting “Book Bike” as the location or by calling the Library at 812-988-2850.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m., Novel Bunch Book Club, Discussing “Everything I Never Told You” by Celeste Ng.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 16, 3:30 to 5 p.m., ATLAS: At the Library After School, hang time, games, crafts and snacks for kids and teens grades 6-12.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m., “Generous Listening,” learn techniques to become a better listener with facilitator Beth Schroeder.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 6:30 p.m., CSW Bookies Book Club, Discussing “World of Wonders” by Aimee Nezhukumatathil.
  • Thursday, Nov. 17, 6 to 7 p.m., Family Writing Program: Stories for Wordless Picture Books, Practice creative writing and write your own stories to real, published picture books. For kids age 4 and up and their families.
  • Friday, Nov. 18, 1 to 2 p.m., Homeschool Huddle at the Brown County 4-H Fairgrounds, Activities for kids and networking for adults. Open to all Brown County homeschoolers.
  • Saturday, Nov. 19, 2 to 3 p.m., “Nature Writing Mini Workshop with Michele Pollock,” exploration of the library and grounds, followed by a writing opportunity led by Brown County author and artist Michele Pollock.
  • Saturday, Nov. 19, 1 to 3 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 21, 5-7 p.m., LEGO Club, drop in and show off your LEGO skills and collaborate with other LEGO builders.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 11:30 a.m., Eat Smart Live Strong: Munch and Learn, sample delicious food, take home healthy recipes and learn simple tips for healthy eating and increased physical activity. Class size limit 10.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 1:30 p.m., “Healthy Habits for Healthy Kids,” Kids can try new foods, experience new flavors and learn about healthy snacks. Class size is limited to 10. For kids ages 6 to 12.
  • Monday, Nov. 21, Monday Morning Storytime at 10:30 am. There will be stories, songs, rhymes and crafts for kids 6 and under with their caregivers.
  • Thursday, Dec. 8, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Game 4 a Change, board, card, and interactive games for ages 12 and up will be available to play. Guests are also invited to bring their own games.

Purdue Extension annual meeting

Purdue Extension-Brown County will hold its annual meeting and dinner on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Exhibit Building at the Brown County Fairgrounds, 802 Memorial Drive.

All are welcome to join for a free dinner and a presentation from Peaceful Valley Heritage. The Extension Board and Extension Educator will also share updates of Purdue Extension’s work in Brown County and present several service awards.

Thanksgiving dinner happening next week

The Community Thanksgiving Dinner will return to the Brown County High School next week, 235 Schoolhouse Lane, on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The dinner is free to the community and guests must RSVP in advance.

Turkeys are needed at this point in time. All are welcome to donate turkeys at the Brown County YMCA, 105 Willow St.

Seasons holiday show coming next weekend

The Seasons Holiday Art and Craft Show will be Friday, Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Seasons Event Center, 506 State Road 46 East.

The annual show began almost 40 years ago. This year’s show will showcase 30 artists and crafters from local and regional studios.

Breakfast, brunch and lunch prepared by the Seasons staff will be available.

Donate goodies for health, living center

All are invited to donate snacks, candies, sugar free items and signed Christmas Cards for the residents at Brown County Health and Living.

Items can be brought until Dec. 20 to the Brown County Assessor’s Office, 201 Locust Lane, who will take them to be distributed to the residents.

Become a foster grandparent

Thrive Alliance and AmeriCorps Seniors are currently looking for foster grandparents for children.

Thrive Alliance and AmeriCorps Seniors work with public and faith-based schools, Head Start Centers and youth serving facilities in five counties, including Brown, being role models, mentors, tutors and friends.

Bible studies ongoing in county

Community Bible Study meets on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the chapel at Cornerstone Inn, 54 E. Franklin St.

They will study Job 1 and 2, Peter, Colossians and James.

After individual study during the week, the group will gather for a group discussion, a teaching and commentary.

LEAP applications are now open

Applications are currently open for the 2022-2023 Brown County Leadership Education Adventure Program (LEAP) cohort. The program will begin in October 2022 and continue through April 2023.

LEAP develops leadership skills, creates a network for the study of community issues and allows participants to learn the needs of the Brown County community.

Applications can be picked up at the Career Resource Center, the Brown County Music Center or the Brown County Visitors Center.

Project Lifesaver applications open

TRIAD and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department have announced that applications are now open for Project Lifesaver.

Those with loved ones at risk of wandering would obtain a personalized wrist-watch sized radio transmitter fitted to their wrist that would be used to locate them if they go missing.

This program is available to any Brown County resident due to a grant support from the Brown County Community Foundation and its partners.

Grants available for septic, well repairs

The Great Lakes Community Action Partnership Decentralized Water Systems program recently announced the availability of grants for water well, in-home water treatment and septic system repairs.

The maximum loan amount is $15,000 with a 1% interest rate. The maturity may not exceed 20 years and will depend on repayment ability.

To be eligible for the grant, the applicant’s household income cannot exceed $33,470. In addition, applicants must own and occupy the home or be in the process of purchasing the home for occupancy. New home construction and community water systems are not eligible.
