Self-publishing classes offered at church

BEAN BLOSSOM — Free self-publishing classes, taught by Dan Snow, will begin Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 18 and 20 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, at state roads 45 and 135 North.

Snow is on the board of directors of Independent Book Publishers Association and a columnist for Publishers Weekly.

CRC offers QuickBooks class

A beginning QuickBooks class will be taught from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, Tuesday, Nov. 1, and Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St. The cost is $180. Call the CRC at 812-988-5880 for more information or to register.

Sign language classes planned

American Sign Language classes are offered at the Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St.

Beginning and intermediate classes are planned in late fall. Classes, from 6 to 8 p.m., last eight weeks. For more information or to register, call the CRC at 812-988-5880.

For previous and current sign language students, a community ASL club meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on third Thursdays at the Brown County Public Library.

Computer support training certificate available

An A+ Computer Support Specialist class (A+ certification) will be taught this fall at the Brown County Career Resource Center. Call 812-988-5880 for more information or to register.

High school equivalency class times set each week

Classes focused on the high school equivalency assessment exam — formerly called GED classes — are taught year-round from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St.

Students who cannot attend then can arrange instruction by appointment or by distance learning.

People enrolled in adult education may be eligible for free job training through Work One.

Small-business counseling available for free

The Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St., offers individual small-business counseling sessions through the Service Corps of Retired Executives.

There is no charge for the sessions, which meet in the morning on the first Thursday of every month. An appointment is required.

Vaccines for uninsured available at health department

The Brown County Health Department, on the second floor of the County Office Building, 201 Locust Lane, is offering all immunizations free of charge for uninsured adults.

Vaccines include tetanus, hepatitis A and B, dTap, MMR, PVC13, PPSV23, varicella and others.

Nursing assistant classes planned

Certified nursing assistant classes are offered periodically at the Brown County Career Resource Center depending on interest. The next class is tentatively scheduled to begin at the first of the year. Call the CRC at 812-988-5880 for more information or to register.

Learn to sign with your baby or toddler

Free sign language classes for babies or toddlers and their parents take place at 2 p.m. Thursdays at the Brown County Public Library, lower level.

Scholarships offered to senior high school girls

The Brown County chapter of P.E.O. Sisterhood, an international philanthropic educational organization, is awarding two scholarships this year.

The $2,500 STAR scholarship is awarded based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. It is open to graduating high school women; a student must be recommended by a P.E.O. chapter.

The local chapter of P.E.O. also awards a $600 scholarship to an outstanding senior girl. This application needs to be filed by Feb. 1.
