JACKSON TWP. — Indiana Department of Transportation maintenance personnel plan to apply a chip-seal surface treatment to State Road 45 Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 28 and 29, between Unionville and Bean Blossom in Monroe and Brown counties.

Flaggers will direct motorists around INDOT crews and equipment.

On Monday morning, work begins at Unionville — weather permitting  — and advances in the northbound lane to Trevlac. In the afternoon, State Road 45’s southbound lane will be chip-sealed, Trevlac to Unionville.

On Tuesday, INDOT plans to apply surface treatment materials along State Road 45 between Bean Blossom and Trevlac, beginning at State Road 135 in the morning. In the afternoon, INDOT intends to chip-seal the opposing lane, Trevlac to Bean Blossom.

In all, next week’s chip-seal operations will coat 24 lane miles of State Road 45 on either side of the Brown-Monroe county line. INDOT reports that the treatments will protect pavement from moisture intrusion and ultraviolet rays, and help improve road surface traction.
