An 18-year-old woman faces two misdemeanors after police reported finding marijuana and paraphernalia while they were checking on a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot.

On Dec. 1, Brown County sheriff’s deputies and Nashville police were called to the Washington Street public parking lot for a report of a suspicious vehicle that might have a missing juvenile inside.

Nashville Assistant Chief Tim True approached the vehicle and was unable to locate the missing juvenile, but reported smelling marijuana coming from the car, a probable cause affidavit by Deputy Josh Stargell states.

Police asked the passenger, Kendra A. D. Acton, to exit the vehicle and speak with them. Stargell reported smelling marijuana on Acton. The driver of the car and another passenger were also asked to exit, the affidavit states.

Acton told police that they had smoked marijuana and there was a glass pipe in her bag with residue in it that belonged to her and another passenger.

Stargell reported finding a drawstring bag that had a glass pipe with marijuana residue in it on the passenger floorboard where Acton had been sitting, according to the affidavit. Stargell also reported finding in the bag a small cardboard box that contained a marijuana grinder and a small amount of marijuana, the affidavit states.

Acton later admitted to police that the items belonged to her. She said she and the other passenger use the pipe, but she bought it, the police report said.

Acton was issued a summons to appear in court. She was charged Dec. 11 with possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
